Senior Piping Engineer
Overview: The Senior Piping Engineer will play a pivotal role in leading the design and coordination of piping systems for a range of engineering projects. This position requires extensive experience in piping design, proficiency in industry-standard software, and the ability to mentor and guide designers and engineers. The Senior Piping Engineer will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the successful integration of piping systems into overall project designs.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and layout of complex piping systems, ensuring alignment with project specifications, standards, and regulations.
- Develop detailed isometric and orthographic drawings, plans, and layouts using industry-standard software.
- Optimize piping routing to ensure efficiency, accessibility, and ease of maintenance.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of piping designers, guiding their professional development and growth.
- Review and oversee the work of junior designers, offering guidance and constructive feedback to ensure design accuracy and quality.
- Demonstrate deep technical expertise in piping design principles, codes, and standards.
- Perform stress analysis and ensure piping designs can withstand mechanical stresses, thermal expansion, and other operational factors.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to ensure seamless integration of piping systems within overall project designs.
- Coordinate with equipment suppliers and vendors to incorporate equipment into piping designs.
- Select appropriate piping materials based on fluid characteristics, pressure, temperature, and corrosion resistance.
- Prepare detailed material specifications, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Ensure that all piping designs adhere to company quality standards, industry regulations, and client specifications.
- Review and verify design calculations, drawings, and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation activities.
- Monitor project progress and ensure timely completion of piping design tasks.
- Identify and resolve technical challenges and design issues that may arise during the course of a project.
- Implement innovative solutions to optimize piping system designs and address project-specific requirements.
- Estimating and CTR development, Client facing experience (Would be advantageous) and having negotiation and conflict resolution experience (technical deviation/queries).
- Managing budgets, produce scope of work and setting project objectives, be able to report progress and monitor piping team productivity when delegated by Lead engineers.
- Experience in managing budgets, produce scope of work and setting project objectives. Creating and maintaining Piping MDR.
- Planning, Progress reporting and maintaining the project plan, recognising changes from Client SoR/Project Scope of work (Change management) and highlighting impacts on cost/Schedule and plan.
- Offshore and onshore Oil and Gas business, but similar transferrable industries skills will be also considered in lieu of specific O&G experience.
- Producing, checking, and approving piping deliverables (Piping Fabrication isometrics, Piping support details) that conform to all applicable industry engineering codes and standards as well as the client’s policies and procedures.
- Conducting presentation for Piping design review, Competent in using 3D model review tools such as Navisworks.
- Producing, checking, and approving valve data sheets, Experience producing, checking, and approving data sheet for Piping Specialty Items (Flexible Hose, Strainers, filters etc).
- Liaising with Suppliers, Manufacturers for procurement of piping items/components
- Liaising with Piping fabricators, Understanding
Responsibilities:
- BEng/BSc or equivalent in relevant Engineering Discipline.
- Significant, demonstrable experience in Detailed Design Engineering and Engineering Checking
- Proficiency in industry-standard design software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, Bentley AutoPIPE, CAESAR II, etc.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant piping codes and standards.
- Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, stress analysis, and material selection.
- Excellent leadership, mentoring, and team management skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work within multidisciplinary teams.
- Problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Project management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Professional registration or certification (e.g., Chartered Engineer) is a plus.
- Survival BOSIET/FOET with CA-EBS & MIST (advantageous).
